Taken from the NYCGB Gala performance in 2008, this is the National Youth Training Choir of Great Britain performing Geantrai, a tradition Irish piece arranged by Michael McGlynn. Conductor is Greg Beardsell and guest soloist is Will Lang.

New Permanent Venue for Choir Rehearsals

I am absolutely delighted to say that we have now secured a permanent venue for the choir to meet every Wednesday at 6:30pm.

Starting from Wednesday the 4th November, the Shropshire Youth Choir will meet at the St Julians Centre (old St Julians Church), Shrewsbury, SY1 1UH

The centre can be accessed either by the steps on the corner of High St. and Fish St. or via the rear entrance from St. Alkmunds Square.

As always, rehearsals start promptly at 6:30 pm on Wednesday and finish at 8pm.

Change of Venue for Wednesday 14th October

I have a very important announcement regarding this Wednesday’s (14th October) rehearsal for the Shropshire Youth Choir that was due to be held at Meole Brace Science College, Shrewsbury.

Due to a clash with the school’s award ceremony, we are unable to meet in their hall this Wednesday.

Please can you let everyone attending this weeks rehearsal know that it will now take place at Holy Trinity Church, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury SY3 9HF, at the same time of 6:30pm til 8pm.

The following week, we will be back at Meole Brace School Science College for Wednesday, 21st October.

Shropshire Youth Choir – The First Rehearsal Interview on BBC Shropshire

BBC Radio Shropshire reporter, Shaun Foggerty, came along to the first ever meeting and rehearsal of the Shropshire Youth Choir this Wednesday at Meole Brace Science College in Shrewsbury. Shaun interviewed our choir master, Robert Harper, and three of our brand new members before recording a little of the Ghanian Hunting song we used as a warm up before tackling some scored pieces.

The report went out on BBC Radio Shropshire on the John Darvall show on Thursday 8th October and again on the morning of the 9th October on Eric Smith’s programme.

A big thank you to all at BBC Radio Shropshire for supporting the Shropshire Youth Choir.

BBC Radio Shropshire will be at our first choir rehearsal

We’re delighted to tell all the budding choir singers out there, that on Wednesday the 7th October at our first rehearsal at Meole Brace Science College we will be joined by Shaun Foggerty from BBC Radio Shropshire. Shaun is a reporter for the BBC and will be coming along to interview our Musical Director, Robert Harper, and to talk to anyone taking part in our first evening of singing.

We’re told by Radio Producer Elaine Muir, for John Darvall on BBC Radio Shropshire, that the pre-recorded excerpts will be played on BBC Radio Shropshire as an insert into John Darvall’s show at some point during the next week.

It’s very exciting, for the choir, that the BBC are keen to support what we are trying to achieve with this project.

Christmas Time Sing Together

We are looking to join up with an already existing event at Christmas time to sing a ten minute slot to showcase the great work all the members of the choir will be doing on Shine and Beautiful. If anyone has contacts with existing choirs that are performing in Shropshire during the christmas period prior to 18th December (last day of term) then please get in touch with us asap.

Also, if you’re business is having an event at Christmas time and would like to book the choir to sing Shine & Beautiful for your corporate or business event then please do get in touch with us to discuss supporting the children of Shropshire.
